Our Story

Why EBA Exists

Following the Taliban's return to power in August 2021, millions of Afghan girls were banned from secondary education. EBA was founded to respond immediately — not with emergency aid, but with a permanent, accredited educational structure that would outlast the crisis.

Founded by Dr Shakardokht Jafari — a radiation physicist and education innovator — EBA brought together academics, technologists and policy experts to build BANFES: a digital school system that works even in environments with limited internet access.

Today, EBA operates as a UK-registered charity delivering Ofqual-aligned Level 1–3 qualifications to thousands of learners across Afghanistan and the diaspora.
