Lasting voice
Description
Yesterday I was sitting and watching Davoud Sarkhosh's interview. At first I thought I would just watch the interview and it would be over, but when it was over I stayed there for a few minutes and thought about what he had said. I thought about how quickly the years pass. People whose names we have heard since childhood will one day reach a point where we hear the news of their illness and it breaks our hearts.
I have not seen Davoud Sarkhosh up close, but his voice is not foreign to me. It is one of the same voices that we have heard since childhood and it has gradually become a part of our memories. Sometimes you hear a song and you don't understand why your heart is touched. Not that it is a new song or that you have heard it for the first time. You may have heard it a hundred times, but at that moment something stirs in your heart. Davoud Sarkhosh's songs are like that for me.
When he sings about Afghanistan and its people and the pain that is not foreign to us, I feel like I am not hearing the words of a distant person. I feel like I am hearing the words of someone who understands the pain of these people. I live in Afghanistan and right here among these people and these days that are sometimes difficult. Maybe that is why when I hear his songs, some of his words are very close to me.
But yesterday I thought more about him than about his songs. That behind that voice that we have heard for years is a human being. A human being who is also going through hard times, is in pain, is tired, and sometimes needs hope. When he told me about his illness, my heart broke. But along with this sadness, one more thing remained in my mind, and that was hope. That despite all the hardships, it is still possible to hope and continue.
Maybe this is what life is like. One day you sing about pain for people and one day you face pain yourself, but you still have to keep going. I don't know what the future holds for Davud Sarkhosh, but I sincerely wish him more good days ahead. I hope he sings with a peaceful heart again and we hear his songs again.
Because some people are not just a singer or a famous name. When their voice comes, memories come back. Home, alley, family, childhood days and a thousand other things that we may not even remember. Davud Sarkhosh is one of these people for me. Maybe years later, when I hear an old song of his, I will still remember this day. The day I saw his interview and said to myself, I wish this familiar voice would remain with us for many more years.
